I have been rattling films through the Leica MP to ensure that its shutter fault was sorted out by its trip to Germany. So here are a couple of pictures of men in “suits”, the latter half a second after he was nearly squashed by a taxi that he couldn’t see! Leica MP [...] In the interest of sharing with, and also in scaring everyone who owns a Leica MP, this is what happens when the shutter breaks. I was shocked when a processed film showed random lines throughout and light bleeding all over, and then oddly the next film was fine. I was more shocked when I [...] I have finally developed and edited a couple of films from January’s Sunderland v Newcastle derby match at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland. As you might expect the policing was heavy that day and the mounted police added to the sense of violence in the air, and became a magnet for my camera. [...] The urban landscape can be a strange and surreal place, and at this time of year the low winter sun creates great pools of light and deep shadows for the photographer to play with. It has been a strange and diverse week of picture making, ranging from stock images of buildings, street photography, and a man contemplating suicide on the parapet of the Tyne Bridge. Here are a couple of “keepers”. After spending part of the weekend scanning new film, I have started to sort out the “keepers”, and the ones that fit in with my current project themes and plans. I dispensed with digital early in the project because [...] I am not the type of person that gets excited over kit, and even when I get a new camera or lens it just goes straight into my backpack – after all they are just the tools of the trade. BUT I still get a sense of excited anticipation when a heap of exposed [...] Over the last year I have been working on a new body of pictures, which can be loosely classed as street photography. My work was being completely dictated by my clients, and I invariably shot a certain type of picture for a certain marketplace.
